One of the my most exciting projects this summer is my The Barefoot Wizard upcycled clothing! I go around to thrift stores searching for high quality, high percentage cotton garments in a variety of sizes. Once procured, (and thoroughly washed), I print and appliqué each piece in a way that best compliments each item. I'm not trying to disguise the original piece, but instead work together with it to make something truly one-of-a-kind and worth giving another round of life to! 🌙Me and my bestie watched The Last Unicorn together the other day and that movie is so incredibly inspiring! I refined some of the sketches I made while watching with some digital painting. This is a pretty boring project compared to some of my others, but it's one of my favorite clothing sets I've made to date. These robe and pants are made from some flannel bed sheets (thrifted of course). I designed them based on mens patterns from the 30's so that I had a more smoking jacket vibe. This dress was made from a circular tablecloth that I found thrifting. (A great way to get a lot of fabric for cheap!) I incorporated heart details into the skirt and cutout in the back to pair with the extremely bright color. I have refused to be cold this winter. It's been a super mild winter where I live, but nevertheless, I do live in Montana and my car has a permanently open window. So, I knit myself these fantastic mittens and scarf out of some beautiful wool I was given. I'm obsessed with how this bright green yarn covered in black fuzz looks like lichen. The mittens were a bit of a learning experience since they were the first I've ever made and I chose to do a fair isle pattern, but it wasn't even that hard! I bought this cute (maybe vintage?) fabric at a thrift store when visiting Missoula. I think it may have been a bed sheet or something, but I knew that it would make the perfect pair of bloomers. The pin tucks at the bottom create a fantastic silhouette when I wear them. I finally finished the sweater vest I started months ago! I learned a lot of stuff while making this since it was my first big piece knit in the round. I unraveled another sweater that I thrifted to get yarn for this which is cool. These are probably my favorite to wear of all the little beaded earrings I've been making! Unexpectedly! The hanging pearls remind me a bit of tiny bird sculls which give these a bit more of a gothic look.
